An excellent mapping site, you can zoom in to your target area quite easily, and it is loaded with wilderness areas, parks and other outdoors travel destination. It also provides quick access to local weather conditions and historic weather patterns for an area.

driven site from EPA providing access to individual counties and water bodies
with information that includes water quality and other relevant topics.

eParka
A fascinating site that lets you design maps and overlays using Geographic Information System (GIS) data from a variety of sources. You can even supply your own user data.

How Far is it?
Provides the distance and direction (vector) between any two cities along with their population and elevation. Plus it allows you to get travel directions.
Map Blast
An excellent site for generating maps and routes, from addresses or intersections.
Map Quest
A somewhat slow site but it includes planning trips through Mobil and allows you to start with a world map and keep clicking your way down to a street map.

Another excellent site with extra features, such as yellow page directories.
MapTech
Another excellent site with topo maps and navigation charts.
Sportsman's Interactive 3D Map
Map allows you to zoom in on your favorite fishing area and see all the lakes, down to the detail level of showing some of the coves and special features. Local hotels/motels are also displayed.
TopoZone.com
This is a great site for topographic map users and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. They have worked with the USGS to create the Webs first interactive topo map of the entire United States. Unfortunately, underwater topology is not included but choose a lake and execute a search and it will give you a great look at the shoreline features.
Water Atlas
The University of South Florida created this water atlas for
south Florida that includes information on lake depths, visibility, topo maps
and related information.
