Clear Creek Nature Trail

Description:
A 1.5-mile trail and boardwalk adjacent to an active U.S. Department of Navy Military airfield passes through uplands, bottomland hardwoods and freshwater swamp, affording close-up views of carnivorous sundews and pitcher plants.

Watchable wildlife:
The aquatic habitats provide homes for turtles, fish and alligators and, occasionally, beavers and otters. Deer, fox and coyote are sometimes spotted. Check for migratory warblers during spring and fall. The pitcher plants and sundews are in bloom April through June.

Directions:
From the town of Milton in the western Panhandle, head north on Hwy. 87 for 8 miles to the intersection of SR 87A. Turn right (east) and follow signs into Whiting Field. Go 1 mile and turn left at Nature Trail sign. Travel 0.5 mile to parking area.
