Recreational Shellfish Harvesting Information

Allowable shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels) harvesting areas are set, monitored, opened and closed by the Agriculture and Consumer Services, Aquaculture.  You may view maps of these areas at: www.floridaaquaculture.com or get additional information by calling (850) 488-5471.

The minimum size limit for oysters is 3".  The bag limit is 2 bags per person or vessel, whichever is less, per day (1 bag = 60 lbs., or 2 five gallon buckets, whole in shell).  The months of June, July, and August are closed to all oyster harvest in Dixie, Levy, and Wakulla counties.  The rest of the state is closed to all oyster harvest during July, August, and September.  All harvest is also prohibited when allowable harvesting areas are closed.

The minimum size limit for clams is 1" thick across the hinge.  The bag limit is one 5 gallon bucket per person or two per vessel, whichever is less, per day.  There is no set closed season, but all harvest is prohibited when allowable harvesting areas are closed.
