Description: This is a narrow island park surrounded by Apalachicola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It offers nine miles of unspoiled, white, sandy beaches. Watchable wildlife: The largest mixed colony of least terns and black skimmers in Florida nests along the causeway linking Eastpoint with St. George Island from April to July. RESPECT POSTED AREAS AND OBEY THE 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT. Shorebirds abound, including American oystercatchers, willets, spotted sandpipers, ruddy turnstones, sanderlings, and four species of plover, including nesting snowy plovers. Bald eagles nest in the park. Spring and fall sees a rich variety of birds stop over during migration, including thirty-three varieties of warbler and seven vireo species. In the fall, sharp-shinned hawks, northern harriers, American kestrels, and peregrine falcons are often seen after a cold front passes. Loggerhead turtles nest on the beach during the summer.
