Description: A 1.5-mile boardwalk, which includes an observation tower, passes over dunes and dredge spoil and provided crossovers to the water's edge for views of birds along the Atlantic beach front, Ponce de Leon inlet, and the northern stretch of the Indian River. Watchable wildlife: Black skimmers and least terns nest here from April through July. RESPECT POSTED AREAS; KEEP DOGS LEASHED. Bottlenosed dolphins are often seen in the inlet and ocean. Winter brings many birds here, including common loons, red-breasted mergansers, and northern gannets. Wading birds fish along the river, and a variety of shorebirds, as well as brown pelicans, ospreys, and gulls are present throughout the year. You may see gopher tortoise, beach mice, and raccoons from the boardwalk. Ownership: Volusia County Contact: |
