Description: The Atlantic Ocean and Indian River surround this barrier island park. Sebastian Inlet bisects the park, which offers three miles of sandy beach, tidal mudflats, mangroves, and coastal hammock. There are no nature trails. Watchable wildlife: Manatees feed in the Indian River, and sea turtles nest along the beach in the summer. There are plenty of wading birds hunting among the mangrove roots for minnows and crabs. Look on the beach for willets, sanderlings, and dunlins, which are joined by black-bellied plovers and ruddy turnstones in the winter. Brown pelicans and double-crested cormorants can be seen loafing on the jetty in company with royal terns, ring-billed gulls, and laughing gulls.
