The Talbot Islands State Parks
Birding Hot Spot and Great Florida Birding Trail site

Description:
Big Talbot and Little Talbot islands comprise the Talbot Islands State Parks. These Atlantic barrier islands are located between Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville, just south of Amelia Island. They have beautiful beaches and dunes, with a coastal hardwood hammock of live oak, cedars behind the dunes and tidal creeks that wind through extensive salt marshes. There are nature trails and an observation deck/pier.

Watchable wildlife:
The salt marshes offer excellent habitat for raccoons, river otters, clapper rails, egrets, and herons. Shorebirds frequent the sandy beach on which loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs in the summer. The coastal hammock is a good place to find snakes, gopher tortoises, painted buntings, and migratory warblers. Look for brown pelicans, gulls, royal terns, and sea ducks from the pier.
