Description: This preserve contains 278 acres of longleaf pine and turkey oak, with seven miles of nature trails and a boardwalk through a cypress dome. There are excellent seasonal wildflower displays. Watchable wildlife: Sandhill species predominate at Morningside, including gopher tortoise, fox squirrel, pocket gophers, and rufous-sided towhees. Bachman's sparrow, pine warbler, eastern bluebird, brown-headed nuthatch, American kestrel, and wild turkey frequent the flatwoods. Spring and summer bring great crested flycatchers, prothonotary warblers, and pileated woodpeckers to the cypress dome. Ownership: City of Gainesville Contact:
