Ochlockonee River State Park
Birding Hot Spot

drawing of wildlife

Description:
This peaceful park is situated at the confluence of the Ochlockonee and Dead rivers and Big Tide Creek, 10 miles from the Gulf coast in the panhandle. Longleaf pine flatwoods, oak thickets, marshes, and tidal river and creek provide productive birding.  Rent a canoe for a quiet paddle through tidal creeks.

Watchable wildlife:
Easy walking trails through the pine flatwoods pass close by red-cockaded woodpecker cavity trees, which are marked with white bands. Additional wildlife such as fox squirrel, bobcat, deer, gray fox and numerous species of birds can be observed while hiking or canoeing in this 392-acre park.
