Description:
A walk or tram ride
across the 2.2-mile Old Seven Mile Bridge to the island of Pigeon Key offers
excellent views of saltwater habitats and sand flats. Seven buildings on the
island are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Watchable Wildlife:
Walk across the Old Seven
Mile Bridge for good looks at a wide variety of wading birds. Watch for
special sightings of roseate spoonbills, reddish egrets and white herons.
Scan the deeper channels of Florida Bay for bottlenose dolphins, rays and
tarpon. This is an outstanding spot for viewing hawks, vultures, peregrine
falcons, kestrels, ospreys, bald eagles and other birds of prey during migration (
late September through early December).

Directions:
In the Florida
Keys, follow US 1 to Mile Marker 48 in Marathon. Park at the Pigeon Key
Visitor’s Center on Knight’s Key and take the shuttle tram or walk or
bicycle the 2-mile distance across the Old Seven Mile Bridge to Pigeon Key.
