Description: At 28,876 acres, this is Florida's largest state park. It features one of the largest tracts of dry prairie habitat in southwest Florida, Sarasota County's two largest lakes, river marsh, and twelve miles of the Myakka River¾one of two Wild and Scenic rivers in Florida. There are 39 miles of backcountry trails, boardwalks, nature tours by tram or boat seasonally, and an interpretive center. Watchable wildlife: Large alligators bask along the edge of lakes and wetlands. Wading birds are abundant, including herons, egrets, white ibis, and limpkins. Waterfowl winter on the lakes, including American wigeon, northern pintail, teal, and ring-necked ducks. Wood ducks are here year-round.
